École Sir Adam Beck JS (SAB) is a unique JK-5 dual-track French Immersion and English school located in the idyllic Alderwood community in Toronto, Canada. Sir Adam Beck first opened its doors in 1921 and was rebuilt in 1999 as a community facility (The Alderwood Centre) where partnerships with The Toronto Public Library (Alderwood Branch), Toronto Parks and Recreation and Alderwood Daycare create uniqe opportunities for the school community. Students enjoy the use of the outdoor skating rink, indoor pool and the resources of the shared library facility. Sir Adam Beck was named after the politician and founder of Ontario Hydro.
"Sir Adam Beck, manufacturer, politician, power-authority commissioner (b at Baden, Canada W 20 June 1857; d at London, Ont 15 Aug 1925). Feared and revered as an empire builder, Beck dominated Ontario politics for a generation as he built and expanded the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario into the largest publicly owned power authority in the world. Son of a German Lutheran foundryman and miller, Beck made his name as a manufacturer of cigar boxes, outstanding athlete, mayor and MPP in London."

ABOUT THE SCHOOL
As our homepage image denotes, at École Sir Adam Beck, we like to fill buckets. In other words, we make every effort to notice the positive and enriching things that staff and students do to make our school community inclusive, and positive!
École Sir Adam Beck JS enjoys a deeply committed staff and very involved school community that make every effort to enrich students' learning in diverse, rich and broad ways. Our mission is to promote a community of learners who demonstrate self-confidence, academic proficiency and social responsibility within a supportive environment. We continue to make every effort to enrich the students' education via extra-curricular activities, collaborative projects, and field trips.
Besides the core subjects delivered in both French and English, students are exposed to a wide variety of educational technology, visual and musical arts integration as well as a committed belief that physical education is an integral part of a child's educational experience.
SAB enjoys a very large gym, expansive fields that include access to a skating rink, ball diamonds, soccer fields and a large colas area for students to enjoy both formal and informal games. There is also a sitting area with large rocks that can be used as an outdoor classroom or simply as a place to sit and read or play with friends. More recently, we have also included a quiet reading area near the East doors of the school.
SIR ADAM BECK SCHOOL COUNCIL

We truly appreciate all of their efforts and the amazing contributions they make to our school life from day to day!
They are also involved in various fundraising initiatives to help fund Scientists in the School, bring unique speakers and arts groups to the school and to help support various technology initiatives, among other things. Currently, they are involved in a multi-phase project that includes an outdoor full-day kindergarten learning centre with plans to further enrich the outside areas of the school in the coming years. This group meets the first Monday of every month. Check their website (above) for more information about their fundraising activities as well as the projects they support.
